🚨BREAKING: ACTIVE SEARCH UNDERWAY NEAR ST. DAVID AFTER SUSPECT FLEES🚨

ST. DAVID, AZ — Law enforcement activity is underway in the St. David area Sunday evening as the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office works to locate a suspect who fled from authorities.

The incident involves a reported “bailout,” a term commonly used when an individual abandons a vehicle and runs from law enforcement.

Deputies are actively searching the surrounding area. At this time, authorities have not released information regarding the suspect’s identity or description, the circumstances leading up to the incident, or whether additional individuals may be involved.

Anyone in the area should use caution and remain aware of law enforcement activity. Residents should avoid the active search area and allow deputies to conduct their investigation.

This remains a developing situation. CoolFMLive will continue following the incident and provide confirmed updates as additional information is released.

⚠️ I-10 LANE CLOSURES PLANNED BETWEEN TUCSON AND BENSON SEPT. 14–18 ⚠️

PIMA COUNTY, AZ — Drivers traveling Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson should plan for delays next week as construction continues near the Amole interchange.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) advises that the left lanes of both eastbound and westbound I-10 will be closed daily between mileposts 292 and 293, near Exit 292.

Closures will be in place:
Monday, Sept. 14 through Friday, Sept. 18
5 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily

The restrictions are part of the I-10 Amole Traffic Interchange and UPRR Bridge Rehabilitation Project.

Marsh Station Road will also have daily flagging operations from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday while the I-10 lane closures are in place.

A 16-foot vehicle width restriction remains in effect throughout the project corridor during active lane restrictions, and the speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

Drivers traveling between the Tucson and Benson areas should allow additional travel time, expect delays and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching the work zone.

ADOT reminds motorists to use caution around construction crews and equipment.

SIERRA VISTA DEDICATES STU CARTER MEMORIAL BIKEWAY IN HONOR OF A LASTING LEGACY

SIERRA VISTA, AZ — A lasting piece of Sierra Vista will now carry the name of a man who dedicated years of his life to serving veterans, cyclists and the community he called home.

During its regular meeting Thursday, the Sierra Vista City Council dedicated a segment of the city’s multi-use path as the Stu Carter Memorial Bikeway, honoring Stuart “Stu” Carter and his lifetime of service.

The newly named bikeway stretches from the intersection of Highway 92 and Buffalo Soldier Trail northwest along Buffalo Soldier Trail to Fry Boulevard.

Carter moved to Sierra Vista in 2006 and became deeply involved in volunteer service throughout the community. A United States Air Force veteran, he continued serving fellow veterans through leadership roles with numerous veterans organizations.

His impact could also be seen throughout Sierra Vista’s cycling community.

Carter served as president of Cochise Bicycle Advocates, helped advance Sierra Vista’s designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community and played an important role in organizing local cycling events and bringing El Tour de Zona to Sierra Vista.

In 2017, Carter combined two causes especially important to him — veterans and cycling — by founding VeloVets Sierra Vista. The organization promotes the physical and mental well-being of veterans through cycling and a welcoming community. What began with only a handful of cyclists has grown to more than 130 members over the past nine years.

Carter also helped identify areas where additional multi-use paths were needed throughout Sierra Vista, contributing to improved connectivity, transportation options and accessibility, particularly for elderly residents and people with disabilities.

“Stu Carter’s service and commitment touched nearly every part of this community,” Sierra Vista Mayor Clea McCaa said. “This memorial bikeway ensures his name and legacy will remain a lasting part of Sierra Vista.”

It’s a fitting tribute for someone who spent so much time helping create connections throughout Sierra Vista — between pathways, between people and between veterans who found community through cycling.

Now, every ride, walk and journey along the Stu Carter Memorial Bikeway will help carry that legacy forward.
