🇮🇹 A New Italian Tradition is Coming to Sierra Vista! 🍕
A dream years in the making is almost ready to welcome the community.
Nonni’s Copper Forno Italian Restaurant, Bar & Pizzeria is preparing to open at 185 E. Wilcox Drive, bringing authentic Italian cuisine, one of the largest copper fornos in Southern Arizona, a beautiful indoor dining room, and an inviting outdoor patio.
While the final touches are completed and indoor dining approval is finalized, Nonni’s Taste of Sicily International Catering will continue serving the community through catering and will soon begin offering takeout from the new location.
The menu will feature homemade pasta, cheese wheel pasta, Osso Buco, Steak Pizzaiola, Chicken Parmigiana, grilled chicken cutlets, authentic East Coast-style pizza, toasted Italian sandwiches, fresh bread, traditional desserts, and much more.
Owner Gaetana’s recipes are inspired by her mother and generations of family tradition rooted in Sicily, New York, and Germany. After her parents settled in Cochise County following their move to Fort Huachuca in 1981, the family made this community home. Now, after years of serving others in the medical field, she’s turning a lifelong dream into reality.
“This restaurant has truly been a labor of love,” Gaetana shared. “We’ve taken our time because we believe in doing things the right way, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors.”
She also expressed heartfelt thanks to her husband, Pancho, her children, extended family, Mr. Politi and his hardworking team, and everyone in the community whose encouragement and support helped make this dream possible.
Congratulations to the entire Nonni’s family! We can’t wait to see the doors open and welcome another outstanding locally owned business to Cochise County.

City Seeks Feedback On Bella Vista Neighborhood Sector Plan 📝
The City of Sierra Vista is seeking resident feedback on its Bella Vista Neighborhood Sector Examination plan.
The City, in partnership with the Neighborhoods Commission, has begun working with local residents to create a series of online interactive maps and supporting plan documents for the City’s residential neighborhoods. These maps and plans are meant to make it easier for people to find information about current conditions and future development in the City’s neighborhoods, subdivisions, and commercial areas. The first area being covered is the Bella Vista Neighborhood Sector.
The City held a meeting on March 30, 2026, to show the online web app and gather residents’ feedback about the neighborhood’s current conditions and future growth. After that meeting, City staff put together a plan document that includes the community’s input along with earlier analysis of the area. The plan also lays out goals for future policy, operations, and development.
The City is now asking for more feedback on this supplemental plan, especially on the goals for the future, because it’s important that the next steps reflect the community’s needs and ideas.
“To truly understand the current strengths and challenges of any given neighborhood, the best course of action is to ask the experts: the people who live and work there each day,” Sierra Vista Community Development Director Matt McLachlan says.
Residents can review the plan and offer feedback online by visiting engage.sierravistaaz.gov. Residents can also learn more and offer comments in person at a public meeting on Friday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Sierra Vista Public Library’s large meeting room.
For more information or assistance, contact the Community Development Department at (520) 417-4413 or Planning@SierraVistaAZ.gov

🌤️ DRIER DAYS AHEAD BEFORE WEEKEND STORMS RETURN 🌦️
After several active days of monsoon weather, Cochise County is expected to see a noticeable decrease in shower and thunderstorm activity beginning today and continuing through the rest of the work week.
While scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain possible each day—a typical Arizona monsoon pattern—storm coverage is expected to be much less widespread than what we’ve experienced recently.
Temperatures will also be on the rise, with daytime highs climbing from the upper 80s into the upper 90s by the end of the week. Overnight lows will remain warm, generally ranging from the low to mid-70s.
Looking ahead, this quieter stretch won’t last long. Monsoon moisture is expected to increase by the weekend, bringing a return of more widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region.
If you’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to tackle outdoor projects, enjoy some time outside, or get caught up before the next round of storms, the next few days should provide that window.
This local weather update is proudly sponsored by Vista Pros Heating & Cooling, keeping Cochise County comfortable through every season. Whether it’s the summer heat or your home’s cooling needs, Vista Pros is here to help. Stay cool, stay prepared, and have a great week!

🚨 MAJOR CRASH WITH FATALITY ON I-10 NEAR DRAGOON 🚨
**UPDATE: Both Eastbound I-10 lanes are now back open**
One Interstate 10 East Bound lane is closed near the Dragoon exit (Milepost 318), approximately 11 miles east of Benson, following a major multi-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes.
According to preliminary information, the incident began with an initial collision. A person reportedly stopped to assist those involved when they were struck by a passing vehicle. That vehicle then collided with the original crash scene, and a subsequent collision involving the stopped vehicle followed, resulting in a complex chain-reaction crash.
Due to adverse weather conditions, air medical helicopters were unable to respond because weather prevented safe flight operations.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has closed the interstate while emergency crews work the scene and an ADOT investigative team responds to document and investigate the crash.
The extent of injuries has not yet been officially confirmed, and authorities continue to assess the scene. Because this is an active investigation, details remain preliminary and may change as more information becomes available.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area, expect significant delays, and use alternate routes if traveling through the corridor.
This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as additional confirmed information is released by officials.

According to information released by the Cochise County Attorney’s Office, a Direct Information has been filed against Miklejon Cory Nelson following a preliminary hearing held in Cochise County Superior Court, Division I.
During the hearing, multiple witnesses testified, and Judge Joel Larson found probable cause to proceed on six felony counts, including:

Following the preliminary hearing, Judge Larson ordered that Nelson remain held without bond pending trial.

The case continues to be investigated by Detective Jesalen Luna of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and is being prosecuted by Deputy County Attorney Terisha Driggs, with assistance from Paralegal Anahi Barron.
This case originated from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office investigation after a deceased man was discovered near a homeless encampment south of Highway 92 in Bisbee. 🇺🇸 A LIVING HERO IS COMING TO SIERRA VISTA — DON’T MISS THIS HISTORIC MOMENT
Some stories are too important to read in a history book. They deserve to be heard from the people who lived them.
This July, Sierra Vista will have the extraordinary privilege of welcoming 100-year-old World War II veteran Anderson Pollard, a true American hero whose life is woven into the fabric of our nation’s history.
A recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds sustained during the fierce fighting in Sicily, Mr. Pollard served with the legendary 92nd Infantry Division after training right here at Fort Huachuca. More than eight decades later, he is returning to the community where part of his remarkable military journey began.
As part of Buffalo Soldier Days, the City of Sierra Vista will officially proclaim itself “America’s Buffalo City,” recognizing the extraordinary legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers and the generations of Black servicemembers whose courage, sacrifice, and dedication helped shape both our nation and our community.
📅 Saturday, July 25
🕙 10:00 AM
📍 Buena High School
Following the proclamation by Mayor McCaa, attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear Mr. Pollard share his firsthand experiences from World War II—a chance to hear living history from one of America’s Greatest Generation.
The celebration begins the evening before with a special dinner on Friday, July 24, where guests will also have the opportunity to meet and hear from Mr. Pollard.
Hosted by the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers (SWABS), Buffalo Soldier Days is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Buffalo Soldiers and their lasting impact on Cochise County.
As SWABS President Demetria Warren so eloquently stated:
“If we lose our past, we will have nothing.”
From protecting settlers and mining communities throughout the Southwest to serving with distinction in conflicts across the globe, the Buffalo Soldiers left an enduring legacy of courage, perseverance, and service. Their story is America’s story—and Sierra Vista is proud to help preserve it.
This is more than an event. It is an opportunity to honor a hero, celebrate our community’s military heritage, and ensure these incredible stories continue to inspire future generations.
For additional information about Buffalo Soldier Days, contact Charles Hancock at (520) 226-7453 or c.hancock@cox.net.
Join us as Sierra Vista honors the past, celebrates our heroes, and welcomes home one of the last living members of the Greatest Generation.
