Entries are now open for the 2026 Cochise College Creative Writing Celebration Writing Contest and Kids Writing Contest. Writers can submit their entries online through the college website at www.cochise.edu/cwc/ until Friday, March 13, 2026.
The Writing Contest takes entries from Cochise County in poetry, nonfiction and fiction. There are three cash prizes in each category with $50 for third, $100 for second, and $200 for first place.
There are three categories for the Kids Writing Contest as well. The contest takes entries from Cochise County residents age 18 and under and the categories are grades K-4, 5-8, and 9-12.

SAD ANNOUNCEMENT: Family is reporting to Coolfmlive that Danny Martinez, from Tombstone has passed away unexpectedly on Friday February 27th. His family has been in Tombstone for many generations. Danny was a hard working, family oriented man who would do anything for his partner and kids(pictured) He worked as a mover in Sierra Vista at Southern AZ Movers. His very sudden and tragic passing has left his young children (10, 9, 5, 2 months) and his partner grief stricken and on their own. They never ask for help, they’re very humble people. Danny was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A COMMUNITY FRIEND PASSES: To Our Dear Friends and Family, It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Harold Behrens, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, partner, and successful business owner, who owned and operated A-Z Rock Shop. He departed this life peacefully at his residence on March 3rd. As a respected entrepreneur, he hosted numerous Gem and Mineral shows at the Sierra Vista Mall. His love for exploring new rocks with friends and his affection for Sierra Vista, his home for the past seven years, will be deeply missed. He formed many meaningful connections throughout his life, and his passing will be felt especially by those who cherished him the most. May he find immense joy in his new spiritual journey! A 'Celebration of Life' ceremony will be organized in the coming months. ~Jackie Harvey~
Harold was a big supporter of Coolfmlive and was always a pleasure to see and work with all the time as we helped promote his shows and shop over the past years. Our heartfelt condolences to his partner of 10 years Jackie and to all his friends and family.

🚨 ROAD CLOSED: Downed Power Line in Sierra Vista 🚨
** UPDATE: ROADWAY IS NOW BACK OPEN FOR TRAFFIC IN BOTH DIRECTIONS **
Drivers in Sierra Vista — please be advised that East Golf Links Road near S. Hummingbird Lane has been shut down due to a downed power line in the area.
Crews with SSVEC are on scene and actively working to safely repair the line. The temporary road closure is necessary to give utility workers the space they need to restore service and ensure public safety.
⚠️ Safety Reminder:
Downed power lines are extremely dangerous.
• Never approach or attempt to move a fallen line.
• Assume all lines are live and energized.
• If you see a downed line elsewhere, report it immediately to authorities or the utility provider.
We encourage motorists to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and allow crews the time and space required to complete repairs safely.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

Vehicle Burglary Investigation – Sierra Vista
The Sierra Vista Police Department is asking for the community’s help identifying a suspect connected to a recent vehicle burglary.
📍 Around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday March 3, 2026, surveillance footage captured an individual attempting to enter a vehicle in the 2900 block of Quail Run in Sierra Vista, AZ.
📍 Later that morning, a vehicle burglary was officially reported in the 2700 block of Quail Run.
Thanks to a vigilant resident who submitted Blink camera footage through SVPD’s tip portal, investigators are now releasing the video in hopes someone recognizes the individual.
