‼️ Man Arrested After Welfare Check Leads to Sex Offender Registration Violation ‼️
A late-night welfare check in Sierra Vista led to the arrest of a local man now facing serious charges related to sex offender registration compliance, according to the Sierra Vista Police Department.
Police say the incident began in the early morning hours of Monday, April 6, 2026 when officers responded to a report of an individual lying unconscious on the sidewalk along the 2000 block of Fry Blvd. What initially appeared to be a routine welfare check quickly escalated into a criminal investigation.
The official statement from SVPD is provided below in full and unedited:
“Man arrested for failing to register as a sex offender
Sierra Vista, AZ. 04/08/26. On Monday, April 6, Sierra Vista police arrested a local man for failing to register as a sex offender.
On Monday, at about 1 a.m., officers conducted a welfare check on an individual who was lying unconscious on the sidewalk on the 2000 block of Fry Blvd. Officers requested medics respond to the area, but the individual appeared intoxicated and refused medical treatment.
During a review of the individual’s personal information, it was determined that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Justice Court 1. He was arrested and booked into the Cochise County Jail. The individual was identified as being a sex offender who was residing in Sierra Vista, but registered as residing in Bisbee.
SVPD Special Operations Bureau detectives interviewed and arrested him a second time at the Cochise County Sierra Vista Jail for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Failing to Obtain an ID. He remains in custody on a $20,000 bond.
The Sierra Vista Police Department maintains strict oversight of sex offender registration and community notification requirements. Anyone with information relevant to this type of criminal activity is asked to contact SVPD Detective Thomas P. Ransford at (520) 452-7500.”

🚨 UPDATE: High-Speed Motorcycle Chase Ends in Crash, 19-Year-Old Arrested 🚨
A high-speed motorcycle pursuit that took place in Sierra Vista on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, ended in a crash and arrest near Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail.
According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initially observed a white sport motorcycle exiting the Lowe’s parking lot onto Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy at approximately 7:23 PM. The operator was reportedly traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, drifting between lanes and losing traction multiple times.
When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the operator accelerated further in an attempt to flee. The motorcycle then traveled at high speeds through multiple streets within the city, nearly striking several vehicles and posing a serious risk to the public.
Deputies ultimately terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety.
A short time later, the Sierra Vista Police Department located the motorcycle after it had crashed near Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail. Responding units apprehended the operator, identified as Vince Gabriel Francisco, 19, of Sierra Vista (photo below)
The individual was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center for medical clearance before being booked into the Cochise County Jail on the following charges:
• Felony Flight
• Misdemeanor Reckless Driving
Authorities also acknowledged the coordinated response and assistance from:
• Sierra Vista Police Department
• Sierra Vista Fire and Medical Services
• Arizona Department of Public Safety

** UPDATE FROM SVPD: This afternoon at about 3:00 p.m. Emergency personnel responded to a report of a wrong-way driver crash at the intersection of Buffalo Soldier Trail and Avenida Cochise. During the initial investigation, it was learned that a female driving a green Chevrolet Trax was driving the wrong way on the road (southbound in the northbound lanes) and collided with a white Nissan Pathfinder who was turning from southbound Buffalo Soldier Trail onto Avenida Cochise.
After the initial impact, the Chevrolet Trax rolled multiple times and collided with an electric box and pieces from the Trax flew off and damaged multiple vehicles in the Cochise Motorsports parking lot.
The driver of the Trax tried to flee the scene on foot, illegally entered another vehicle and tried to flee in that, and then fled on foot again before being apprehended. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver will be booked, after medical clearance, into the Cochise County Jail for Aggravated DUI, two counts of Aggravated Assault, two counts of Endangerment, five counts of felony Criminal Damage, two counts of misdemeanor Criminal Damage, 3rd Degree Burglary, Attempted Theft of Means of Transportation, and Resisting Arrest. **
🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT 3:25PM: Crash Reported at Buffalo Soldier Trail & Avenida Cochise 🚨
Emergency crews are currently on scene of a vehicle accident at the intersection of Buffalo Soldier Trail and Avenida Cochise.
What to Expect:
• Traffic delays in the area for some time.
• Possible lane restrictions while crews work the scene
• Increased emergency vehicle presence
Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes to help reduce congestion and allow first responders to safely do their job.
What we know at the moment:
A wrong way driver now suspected of DUI crashed into a turning vehicle at the intersection. The female driver then fled the scene briefly and was later apprehended. Both drivers of each vehicle were taken to Canyon Vista Medical for treatment. No other victims were reported or in vehicles. Once the crash occurred the wrong way driver vehicle flipped over and into some ATV side by sides parked at Cochise Motor Sports and took out an electrical box as well. More details will be updated in this post later today or tomorrow morning.

“On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at approximately 7:23 pm, a Cochise County Sheriff's Deputy observed a white in color sport motorcycle exit the Lowe's parking lot onto Martin Luther King Pkwy in Sierra Vista. The Deputy advised that the operator accelerated to such a rapid high speed that the motorcycle drifted between lanes and lost traction several times.
The Deputy activated his emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop when the operator saw the Deputy and accelerated faster in an attempt to avoid contact.
The motorcycle travelled at a high rate of speed through multiple streets within the city, almost striking several vehicles before Sheriff's Office personnel terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety.
A short time later, Sierra Vista Police advised that the vehicle had crashed in the area of Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail. Units arrived on scene and apprehended the operator, a 19-year-old Sierra Vista resident. The operator was transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center for medical clearance before being booked into the Cochise County Jail on charges of Felony Flight and Misdemeanor Reckless Driving.

🚨 BREAKING: HIGH-SPEED MOTORCYCLE PURSUIT ENDS IN CRASH, TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS IN SIERRA VISTA 🚨
Sierra Vista — A high-speed motorcycle pursuit Tuesday evening ended in a crash and arrest, with traffic now impacted in the area.
The incident began around 7:30 PM on April 7th, when a motorcycle rider fled from law enforcement, leading deputies and officers on a pursuit through city streets. Speeds during the chase reportedly reached upwards of 80 MPH, creating a dangerous situation for motorists.
Law enforcement terminated pursuit on Buffalo Soldier Trail, but the motorcyclist ultimately crashed at the intersection of Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail. The rider was taken into custody at the scene and evaluated by EMTs for injuries.
🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT:
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Buffalo Soldier Trail are currently reduced to one lane each way. Avenida Cochise can only make a right turn (northbound) on to Buffalo Soldier Trail.
⚠️ Drivers are urged to slow down, remain alert, and consider alternate routes if possible.
At this time, details regarding injuries or charges have not yet been officially released.
