💔 FIVE TEENAGE FRIENDS KILLED IN CRASH JUST DAYS BEFORE A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Five friends. Five 17-year-old boys. Five families now facing a loss no parent should ever have to endure.
A heartbreaking tragedy in Colorado is hitting especially hard as teenagers across the country — including so many right here in Cochise County — return to school and begin another year with their friends.
Five teenage boys were killed after the vehicle they were traveling in went off a cliff and crashed into a hillside late Saturday night in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office identified the teenagers as Tristan Tucker, William Simms, Tyler Kersey-Huffman, Titus Gould and Braden Taylor. All five were just 17 years old. Three attended Grand Junction High School, while the other two also had connections to the local school district.
Instead of walking back through the doors of school with their classmates, there will now be five empty places where young men with their entire futures ahead of them should have been.
According to authorities, all five died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said three occupants, including the driver and front-seat passenger, were wearing seat belts. Two were not and were ejected from the vehicle. Investigators have said speed may have been a factor, although the investigation remains ongoing.
As students return to Grand Junction High School, mental health professionals are being made available to students and staff as the school community begins processing an unimaginable loss.
While this tragedy happened hundreds of miles away, its message reaches every community.
Here in Cochise County, thousands of teenagers are driving themselves to school, practices, jobs and friends’ homes every day. Many are experiencing the freedom of driving for the first time.
Parents, talk to your teenagers. Teenagers, talk to your friends.
Wear your seat belt every single time. Slow down. Don’t let a friend drive dangerously. Speak up when something doesn’t feel safe. And remember that getting somewhere a few minutes sooner is never worth risking a life.
A normal night with friends can change in seconds.
Our hearts go out to the families of Tristan, William, Tyler, Titus and Braden, their friends, classmates, teachers and the entire Grand Junction community.
May these five young men be remembered not simply for how their lives ended, but for the friendships, memories and lives they shared during the 17 years they were here.
Five friends who should have been starting another school year together. Five families who will carry them in their hearts forever.

B-1 LANCER SPOTTED OVER SIERRA VISTA & FORT HUACHUCA! 🇺🇸
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Cochise County skywatchers were treated to an impressive sight today, Thursday, August 13, as a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer was spotted flying in the skies above the Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca area. The B-1 was in the area Thursday supporting the Joint Interoperability Test Command exercise Purple Thunder!
Known as the “Bone,” the B-1B Lancer is a long-range, supersonic heavy bomber and one of the most recognizable aircraft in the U.S. Air Force inventory. With its distinctive variable-sweep wings and four powerful engines, seeing one overhead is certainly enough to make you stop and look up!
DID YOU SEE IT?

"I am so deeply proud of you." AZ ATTORNEY GENERAL KRIS MAYES RETURNS TO BENSON FOR FIRST TIME SINCE ALUMINUM DYNAMICS ANNOUNCED IT'S DEPARTURE.
The last time AG Mayes was in Benson for a Town Hall, she was met by a packed house of hundreds of residents expressing their concerns over the massive proposed 174,000sf Aluminum Dynamics plant to be located on 200 acres near Benson city center, and across from a nursing home close to a school.
Fast forward months later after the meeting, Mayes had a conference call with the CEO of Aluminum Dynamics and talked about enacting the Nuisance Law against the industrial plant over environmental and health concerns .
Subsequent to the call, Aluminum Dynamics made the decision to pull their development out of Benson.
Now Mayes returns to the the same hall to provide an update, this time the room is packed with grateful residents.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: EILEEN MARIE SMITH FOUND GUILTY IN $119,000 FRAUD AND THEFT CASE 🚨
COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — Cochise County Attorney Lori Zucco has announced that Eileen Marie Smith has been found guilty on two counts of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices & Theft in a case involving funds belonging to the trust of a vulnerable adult.
Following the guilty verdict, Smith is currently being booked into the Cochise County Jail, where she will remain pending sentencing. She faces a required prison term ranging from three to five years. Sentencing is scheduled for September 25 at 11:00 a.m.
The following information was released directly by the Cochise County Attorney's Office:
“Cochise County Attorney Lori Zucco announced the guilty verdict of Eileen Marie Smith on two counts of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices & Theft in connection with funds belonging to the trust of a vulnerable adult.
The case originated from a February 22, 2024, fraud report to the Sierra Vista Police Department. According to the report, an Adult Protective Services (APS) employee advised officers that Smith had served as the victim’s caretaker, held power of attorney, and became trustee of Blair’s trust after Blair’s declining health and incapacity.
The report elaborates Smith misappropriated a little over $119,000 for her own personal benefit. The victim’s son was identified as the beneficiary who was to receive 100 percent of the trust, but APS reported that he had not received any of the funds.
The County Attorney’s Office remains committed to ensuring public safety and protecting vulnerable members of our community. County Attorney Lori Zucco firmly stands against financial exploitation and fraud, and her office will continue to work closely with law enforcement to hold accountable those who unlawfully take advantage of others.
This case was investigated by Detective John Papatrefon of the Sierra Vista Police Department and the jury trial prosecuted by Deputy County Attorney Michael Powell with Paralegal Naara Dominguez.
*Please note, this content may reference individuals or allegations under investigation. All such individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
CoolFMLive will continue to follow this case and provide additional information as it becomes available, including from Smith’s sentencing on September 25.

MAJOR FLOOD DAMAGE LEAVES RANCHERS AND RESIDENTS FACING ACCESS CHALLENGES EAST OF DOUGLAS
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Ranchers and residents living approximately eight miles east of Douglas along Geronimo Trail are facing a significant access problem following severe flooding that caused extensive damage to a crossing in the area.
According to information provided to CoolFMLive, approximately 15 ranchers and residents rely on the affected route, and restoring reliable access would require construction of a bridge.
Cochise County Supervisor Kathleen Gomez indicated that the estimated cost to address the damaged crossing with a bridge could be around $7 million.
The damage occurred following an extraordinary rainfall event last Tuesday, when nearly six inches of rain reportedly fell within a highly concentrated area. Gomez described the event as approximately a once-in-10,000-year flood, with the tremendous volume of water overwhelming the area and causing the damage now affecting local access.
For the time being, residents have reportedly been using a nearby U.S. Border Patrol road as an alternate route to reach their properties. However, CoolFMLive has learned that residents have encountered some resistance regarding continued use of that road, creating additional uncertainty for those who depend on it as their current way around the damaged crossing.
The situation presents a difficult challenge with no immediate or inexpensive solution.
Constructing the necessary infrastructure could cost millions of dollars that the county does not currently have readily available for the project. In the meantime, cooperation and understanding from federal officials and U.S. Border Patrol regarding temporary access could be important as county leaders and residents determine what options may be available.
For the ranchers and families who live and work in this area, reliable access is not simply a matter of convenience. It is essential for reaching homes, ranching operations, supplies and other necessities.
CoolFMLive will continue following this situation and provide additional information as county officials, federal agencies and affected residents work toward a possible solution.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED AS FAMILY MOURNS THE LOSS OF BARBARA TAYLOR
Help Us Bring Jacquelyn to Arizona to Honor Our Mom, Barbara
Our family is heartbroken beyond words after the devastating loss of our mother, Barbara Taylor, who passed away by suicide on August 8, 2026.
Barbara was a mother of three daughters—Jacquelyn, Jessica Mae, and Maxine—and a grandmother to seven grandchildren. She was also eagerly looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother, something she was beyond excited and happy about.
Our family has already endured an unimaginable loss. On July 4, 2025, we lost our middle sister, Jessica Mae. Losing Jessica broke an already fragile heart, and now, just over a year later, we are facing the devastating loss of our mother as well.
Barbara was a spirited woman with an incredible sense of humor. She had a way of lighting up a room whenever she walked in. She loved her family deeply, and there are so many memories of her that we will carry with us forever.
Right now, we are trying to come together as a family and give our mother the celebration of life she deserves. My oldest sister, Jacquelyn, lives in North Dakota, and we are asking for help bringing her to Arizona so that Barbara’s two remaining daughters can be together to honor our mother, say goodbye, and celebrate the life she lived.
We are hoping to hold her celebration of life within the next few weeks. Thankfully, we have been incredibly fortunate to have a local charity help cover the cost of Barbara’s cremation. We are deeply grateful for that kindness and support during such a difficult time.
Any donations will help with Jacquelyn’s travel from North Dakota to Arizona, expenses related to Barbara’s celebration of life, and allowing me to take time off work to properly grieve and be with my family during this incredibly difficult time.
HOW YOU CAN HELP ❤️
A GoFundMe has been established to help the family during this incredibly difficult time. Those who would like to contribute can donate through the link below:
GoFundMe: www.gofundme.com/f/bringing-jacquelyn-to-arizona-to-honor-our-mom/cl/s?utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet...
Every contribution, regardless of the amount, will help bring this family together to honor Barbara and provide support as they navigate the difficult days ahead.
We know times are difficult for many people, and we understand that not everyone is able to donate. If you can’t contribute financially, sharing this fundraiser, keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers, or simply helping us spread the word means more than we can say.
We are trying to navigate an unimaginable amount of grief while coming together as a family and honoring the woman who meant so much to all of us.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for caring about our family, and for helping us bring our family together during this incredibly painful time. Every donation, share, kind word, and prayer means more to us than you know.
Rest peacefully, Mom. We love you, Barbara. You will never be forgotten.
