In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, local Girl Scouts are inviting the community to come together for an evening centered around hope, kindness, encouragement and reminding others that they are not alone.

On Thursday, September 10, community members are encouraged to gather at Pan American & 15th Street from 5:30–6:30 p.m. to help spread positive messages throughout the community.

Participants are encouraged to bring flyers or signs with uplifting messages, share words of encouragement and support, and help remind those around us that they are seen, valued and loved. Free resources and positive messages will also be available to share.

A HEARTFELT GOODBYE FROM MY PLACE RESTAURANT — THANK YOU FOR 25 YEARS❤️

For 25 years, the doors of My Place Restaurant have opened to the Sierra Vista community nearly every day. Sadly, the family has now shared the heartbreaking reason those doors have recently been closed.

Alex shared that their mother was taken to the emergency room on August 15 after experiencing difficulty breathing. Doctors discovered she has Stage IV neuroendocrine carcinoma, a rare, aggressive and fast-growing cancer. Her oncologist has given the family an optimistic prognosis of only one to two months. She is currently in Tucson receiving in-home hospice care.

Alex has also confirmed that My Place Restaurant will not be reopening.

The family is asking for privacy and understanding during this incredibly difficult time. Alex’s mother does not want visitors, and the family does not currently need assistance clearing out the restaurant.

They are also asking everyone to please respect the restaurant’s closure. While longtime customers understandably have questions, please do not bang on the doors or direct anger toward the family. They are navigating circumstances no family could have anticipated.

For a quarter of a century, My Place was more than somewhere to grab a meal. It became part of Sierra Vista — a place filled with familiar faces, conversations, friendships and countless memories.

At the heart of it all was one woman’s simple dream: to feed as many people as she could.

For 25 years, this community helped make that dream possible.

Alex has invited the community to leave memories, messages and well wishes in the comments, and she will share them with her mother.

To Alex, her mother, Josh and the entire My Place family: thank you for the meals, the memories, the early mornings and 25 years of serving Sierra Vista.

The Gunnison Project is Located about 65 miles east of Tucson, in the Cochise Mining District. It features a large-scale open-pit heap leach and solvent extraction/electrowinning (SX/EW) operation with an after-tax net present value estimated around $2 billion.

Aiming to produce significant amounts of domestic refined copper, with potential long-term production scaled to supply over 10% of U.S. refined copper needs.

Expanding its active drill program (scaling up to six rigs) and targeting a final pre-feasibility study (PFS) by early 2028 alongside state permit amendments for open-pit mining.

The Gunnison Project is a large-scale, open-pit copper mining development in Cochise County, southern Arizona, designed to produce roughly 174 million pounds of copper each year for 21 years.

How it works: It uses a simple open-pit mining method paired with heap-leach and solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX/EW) processes to create pure copper cathode directly at the site.

Infrastructure: Essential services like onsite power, rail lines, and water are already in place. Project Economics Value: Holds an after-tax net present value (NPV) estimated at about $2 billion.

‼️U.S. CONSULATE ISSUES SECURITY ALERT FOR NOGALES, SONORA ‼️

NOGALES, SONORA — The U.S. Consulate in Nogales has issued a security alert restricting U.S. government activities and travel in the area due to reported threat information.

According to the alert, issued September 5, U.S. government activities in and travel to Nogales have been restricted to essential movement during daylight hours only. The Consulate said U.S. citizens are being alerted to the threat and the resulting change in security posture.

The alert did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the threat.

Officials also reminded travelers that the U.S. Travel Advisory currently designates the state of Sonora as Level 3 — “Reconsider Travel.”

The Consulate is advising U.S. citizens in the area to exercise increased caution and remain aware of their surroundings. In the event of an incident, individuals are advised to seek shelter, notify friends and family of their safety when possible, and follow instructions from Mexican authorities.

The restrictions outlined in the security alert specifically apply to U.S. government personnel and government activities. The notice does not state that the Nogales border crossing is closed or that travel by the general public has been prohibited.
