COMMUNITY WOWZA‼️On Saturday, August 22nd, over 250 cars gathered in Sierra Vista, AZ, to support Cody, a local autistic boy who loves anything on wheels. After his mother, Corey Jones, posted on Chit Chat Sierra Vista asking for a small vehicle parade, the community organized a massive birthday cruise to their home.
Corey shared the following message of gratitude:
"I cannot thank each and everyone of you enough! You've made Cody's year! I'm still in shock. You've helped make my son's birthday one for the books. Thank you to everyone who was generous enough to bring him a gift. He loves them all! It's 9 PM and he's still playing! A special thank you to the riders and drivers who came from out of town to help make this happen. I wish there were more words to show the gratitude my son and I have for all of you. I'll be collecting photos and hoping to make a video. Again, thank you so very much. Much love, Cody and Corey."

HERO BEHIND THE WHEEL: BUS DRIVER’S QUICK ACTIONS HELP GET STUDENTS TO SAFETY
PALOMINAS, Ariz. — Palominas School District bus driver Tina Rice Carbajal is being recognized for her quick actions after helping five students safely escape a school bus moments before it went up in flames Monday, August 17.
Tina has spent 11 years as a school bus driver, including three years with Palominas School District on the same route. She says she had never experienced anything like this.
Near the end of her route, with only three stops remaining, Tina noticed an unusual smell and felt that the brakes didn’t feel right. Trusting her instincts, she pulled over in a safe location and radioed for another bus.
“I knew something wasn’t right so I radioed in to let them know. I then found a safe place to park it so they can come get it. It began to smoke, then we heard a loud explosion from rear of bus. That’s when I had students evacuate bus.” — Tina Rice Carbajal
Tina quickly got all five students off the bus. The bus then became engulfed in flames, with three explosions occurring during the incident.
Everyone made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.
Tina also credits nearby neighbors who came running to help comfort the children and provided juice for a diabetic child.
“Humble…I just did my job and so thankful we got out safely,” Tina said.
About five minutes later, another bus arrived. Tina got aboard with the children and personally finished the route, making sure they made it safely home.
The following day, Coronado Elementary had a counselor available for the students, and Tina was there to help reassure the children, including one younger student who was still processing what happened.
Chef Tony from Sierra Vista Melty wanted to give a $50 gift card to her (Pictured) And the Palominas School District also recognized Tina this past week for her actions.
Tina may humbly say she was simply doing her job, but her experience, instincts and quick response helped get five children safely away from a dangerous situation before it became much worse.
Thank you, Tina — and thank you to the neighbors who stepped up when these children needed you most. ❤️

UPDATE 10PM 08/22/2026: Detectives have also now located the suspect previously seen exiting the vehicle believed to be involved in the death of Carlos Ramirez. Investigators are working to determine his involvement. No arrest has been made at this time.
Alex James Barnett, 33, remains outstanding and is wanted on a first-degree murder warrant.

‼️BREAKING UPDATE: ONE ARRESTED, TWO STILL SOUGHT IN DEADLY SHOOTING OF TUCSON POLICE CADET‼️
TUCSON, Ariz. — A major development has been announced in the investigation into the deadly shooting of Tucson Police Department Cadet Carlos Ramirez.
Authorities say 39-year-old Santiago Jorge Rogers has been arrested in connection with the case. Rogers was taken into custody without incident early Saturday morning when law enforcement served a search warrant at a hotel in the 4800 block of South Palo Verde Road in Tucson.
The investigation, however, is far from over.
Authorities are continuing to search for two additional suspects believed to have been involved in the deadly shooting.
One of those suspects has been identified as 33-year-old Alex James Barnett, who is wanted on an active warrant for first-degree murder.
A third suspect has not yet been publicly identified.
The case stems from the fatal shooting of Ramirez at his southwest Tucson home. Ramirez was a cadet with the Tucson Police Department. His fiancée, who works as a corrections officer with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, was also wounded in the shooting.
Investigators had previously released surveillance images showing three masked individuals dressed in dark clothing as authorities worked to identify and locate those believed to be connected to the case.
With one person now in custody, the search for the remaining two suspects continues.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
This remains an active investigation, and additional information could be released as the case develops.

HUACHUCA CITY LIBRARY CELEBRATES AMERICA’S 250TH WITH WRITING & DRAWING CONTEST 🇺🇸
HUACHUCA CITY, Ariz. — Creativity, history and imagination are coming together as the Huachuca City Library invites children, teens and adults to participate in its America’s 250th Writing & Drawing Contest.
This year’s theme is “The Objects Tale.” Participants are challenged to write or draw from the perspective of an inanimate historical object as it watches 250 years of American history unfold.
The contest is open to several age groups, with different requirements for each:
• 1st–4th Grade: Create a drawing or comic book-style piece based on the theme. Comics may be up to 10 pages.
• 5th–8th Grade: Create a drawing, comic, or short story. Written stories must be 2–5 pages, while comics may be up to 10 pages.
• High School: Create a drawing, comic, or short story. Written stories must be 3–5 pages, while comics may be up to 15 pages.
• Adults: Create a drawing, comic, or short story. Written stories must be 5–8 pages, while comics may be up to 20 pages.
All entries must be submitted by November 30, 2026. Prizes will be awarded on December 16.
Participants can submit their entries or ask questions by emailing library@huachucacityaz.gov, or entries can be turned in directly at the Huachuca City Library.
The library also notes that every submission will be AI-checked.
Whether you’re a young artist, an aspiring writer, a history enthusiast or simply someone with a creative idea, this is a unique opportunity to put your imagination to work while helping commemorate America’s 250th birthday!

Cody is a local autistic boy who LOVES cars, motorcycles, trucks and just about anything on wheels. Community members are organizing a special birthday cruise to Cody’s home — and they’re inviting everyone to help put a HUGE smile on his face!
📍 MEET-UP: VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK
Today, August 22
Please arrive by 12:00 NOON
Participants will line up and get organized at the park before heading out at approximately 12:50 p.m.

…and other special rides are welcome!
The group will travel westbound on E. Fry Boulevard, turn right onto N. Lenzer Avenue, then left onto E. Bella Vista Drive before turning right onto Andrea Drive, where Cody will be waiting under a canopy in his front yard.
Organizers are asking everyone participating to obey all traffic laws, drive safely and be courteous and respectful to Cody’s neighborhood. Once you arrive, please be patient and give Cody the opportunity to enjoy meeting everyone and seeing all the incredible vehicles that came out just for him.
🎁 Want to make his day even more special? Participants are welcome to bring Cody a birthday gift or gift card, although it is certainly not required. Showing up and being part of his special day is what this is all about.
This is the kind of moment where a community can make a difference simply by showing up.
Let’s fill the streets with some incredible rides and give Cody and his mom a birthday memory they won’t soon forget.

🚨SWAT MISSION UNDERWAY AT SIERRA VISTA RV PARK🚨
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — A law enforcement SWAT operation is underway at the Garden Grove RV Resort Park in Sierra Vista.
The operation was active at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday 8/21/2026 evening. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the SWAT mission, including what prompted the law enforcement response, are unknown.
Residents and motorists in the area are encouraged to avoid the immediate vicinity and give law enforcement personnel room to safely conduct the operation.
