BREAKING: SEARCH SUS

BREAKING: SEARCH SUSPENDED FOR WOMAN SWEPT AWAY IN SAN PEDRO RIVER‼️

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an active search after a woman was reportedly swept away by rapidly rising floodwaters while attempting to cross the San Pedro River early Thursday morning.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted by the U.S. Border Patrol at approximately 2:19 a.m. regarding a reported water rescue incident. Border Patrol advised that five undocumented immigrants had been apprehended near Naco after illegally entering the United States. The group told authorities they attempted to cross the San Pedro River at approximately 12:30 a.m., when floodwaters rose quickly.

During the crossing, a Hispanic female believed to be between 45 and 50 years old was reportedly swept away by the fast-moving water. The remaining members of the group were unable to report the incident until after they were apprehended.

The missing woman is described as:
• Hispanic female
• Approximately 45–50 years old
• Approximately 5’5” tall
• Approximately 140 pounds
• Brown hair
• Brown eyes
• Last seen wearing a gray shirt and black jeans

The Sheriff’s Office immediately activated its Search and Rescue Team, with additional support from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter and unmanned aerial systems (drones). Search efforts focused on the area between Greenbush Draw and the San Pedro River.

At approximately 10:27 a.m., search teams located a gray shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a separate black shirt. Authorities say the clothing is believed to be consistent with the description of the missing woman.

The search was suspended around 11:15 a.m. so additional resources could be assembled, including certified human remains detection (cadaver) canine teams. Search operations are expected to resume tomorrow in targeted areas identified during today’s investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office - Mark J. Dannels Sheriff says additional information will be released as it becomes available.
