THIS SATURDAY - A HEARTWARMING DAY OF SERVICE WITH THE LION’S CLUB AT THE SALVATION ARMY, MAKING BLANKETS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED - IT’S “CHECKING IN WITH JEFF DAVENPORT,” PRESENTED BY THE ED MORSE AUTO GROUP!

This Saturday, August 8th at the Salvation Army Community Center, located at 180 E Wilcox Drive, Sierra Vista, the Sierra Vista Lion’s Club will be teaming up with the Salvation Army Sierra Vista Corps and Project Linus to create blankets for children who are in hospitals, social service agencies, traumatized, seriously ill, or otherwise in need of a blanket “hug.”

The community is invited to join them making no-sew fleece blankets, crocheting borders on fleece blankets, and hand-coloring custom quilt squares for one-of-a-kind quilts.

Fire crews continue to respond to the Riggs Fire, which was first reported Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 11:55 a.m. MST, according to Watch Duty.

Since the initial report, the estimated fire size has increased:

* 11:55 a.m. – Fire first reported
* 1:39 p.m. – Estimated at 20 acres
* 4:40 p.m. – Updated to 36.85 acres

At this time, no additional official information has been released regarding the cause of the fire, containment, structures threatened, evacuations, or road closures.

As wildfire activity continues across Southern Arizona, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, avoid the area if possible, and stay alert for updates from fire officials. Dry vegetation, hot temperatures, and changing wind conditions can allow fires to spread quickly.
