WORK UNDERWAY ON MAJ

WORK UNDERWAY ON MAJOR SIERRA VISTA GOLF CENTER WATER & ENERGY SAVINGS PROJECT 🌵☀️

Exciting changes are now underway at the Sierra Vista Golf Center as the City of Sierra Vista moves forward with a major water and energy savings project in partnership with Schneider Electric.

Construction on covered parking with solar panels begins this week, while the first phase of turf reduction is already in progress. Additional improvements, including upgrades to ponds, critical water infrastructure, and the irrigation system, are expected to begin in September. The overall project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

One of the most significant improvements includes converting 17.5 acres of irrigated turf into water-efficient landscaping. Once complete, the project is expected to conserve approximately 35 million gallons of water every year while generating more than $6 million in lifecycle savings.

The new landscape will feature a blend of xeriscaping and specially selected native vegetation designed for Sierra Vista’s climate, helping support local pollinators and wildlife while creating an attractive, sustainable environment.

During construction, visitors may notice some areas of the course looking less manicured as existing turf is removed and new vegetation is established. City officials say this is a temporary part of the transformation toward a more resilient, water-conscious landscape.

“This project demonstrates how communities can balance recreation, conservation, and fiscal responsibility,” said City Director of Parks, Recreation & Library Laura Wilson. “By reducing water use and modernizing infrastructure, we’re making an investment that will benefit Sierra Vista residents for decades to come.”

City officials and Schneider Electric say they will work to minimize disruptions and keep as much of the Golf Center accessible as possible throughout construction.

This is a major investment in the future of Sierra Vista—helping conserve one of our region’s most valuable resources while modernizing a community asset for generations to come.

FOUR PEOPLE HOSPITAL

FOUR PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED FOLLOWING HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SPILL FROM TRAIN DERAILMENT NEAR ARIZONA BORDER‼️

NACO, Sonora, Mexico — New information has emerged following a freight train derailment in northern Sonora that released thousands of gallons of a hazardous industrial chemical near the Arizona border. Officials now report that four people have been hospitalized following exposure related to the incident.

According to Mexican environmental authorities, the derailment occurred on July 25, 2026, approximately 10 to 15 miles south of the Naco, Arizona, border crossing. Several Ferromex freight train cars left the tracks, releasing an estimated 59,000 liters (about 15,600 gallons) of sodium hydrosulfide, a hazardous chemical commonly used in mining and other industrial processes.

Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) classified the incident as an environmental emergency. While officials initially stated that preliminary analyses indicated there was no immediate risk to the general public, subsequent reports indicate four individuals have since been hospitalized following exposure associated with the chemical release.

Emergency crews, Sonora Civil Protection personnel, environmental officials, and representatives from the companies involved responded to the derailment. Authorities previously reported that no one was injured as a direct result of the train derailment itself, though the later hospitalizations are being linked to the chemical spill.

Mexico’s National Water Commission continues collecting water and soil samples to determine whether the chemical contaminated nearby land or waterways. Environmental inspectors are also assessing the extent of any environmental damage while determining what additional cleanup efforts or enforcement actions may be required under Mexican environmental law.

Reports also indicate that residents and ranchers have filed a complaint with Mexico’s Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) seeking accountability for damages they say resulted from the incident.

At this time, no impacts have been reported on the Arizona side of the border, and no public health advisories have been issued for nearby U.S. communities. Officials continue monitoring conditions as cleanup efforts, environmental testing, and the investigation remain ongoing.

CoolFM Live will continue following this developing story and will provide updates as additional verified information becomes available, including any potential impacts to Cochise County and other Arizona border communities.

Monday never promise

Monday never promises us a smooth road.

Some weeks begin beneath open skies. Others arrive carrying clouds heavy enough to make us wonder how much light could possibly remain behind them.

But there it is.

Along the horizon, morning has already found its way through—quietly illuminating the mountains, touching the fields, and revealing just enough of the road ahead to keep us moving.

We don’t need to see the entire journey from where we stand. We only need enough light for the next few steps… and enough faith in ourselves to take them.

There may be stones in the road this week. A few muddy stretches. Maybe even a wrong turn that adds miles we never intended to travel. That doesn’t mean we’ve lost our way. Sometimes the unexpected road carries us toward a view we would never have discovered otherwise.

So let the clouds gather. Let the road wander.

The horizon is still glowing, the week is still young, and somewhere ahead of us is a moment worth reaching.

Good Monday morning, everyone. Let’s get moving.

Deep breath… exhale.

💙 NOLAN’S CANCE

💙 NOLAN’S CANCER JOURNEY: FAMILY SHARES MAJOR UPDATE & CONTINUES TO SEEK SUPPORT

Nolan’s family has shared a new update on his cancer journey and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has donated, shared, and offered support.

According to the family, Nolan’s cancer has spread to distant lymph nodes near his left aorta and spinal muscles. They said these tumors have been causing severe back pain by pressing on nearby nerves.

Nolan recently underwent an extensive surgery that lasted nearly eight hours. The family said surgeons successfully removed a recurring colon tumor, completed a colon resection, and also removed two additional abdominal tumors that were discovered during the procedure. However, they said the tumor involving the left aortic lymph node could not be completely removed because it had extended toward his spine and near the aorta, allowing only a small portion to be removed.

The family said Nolan is now recovering at home and is expected to spend the next six to eight weeks healing before beginning radiation on the remaining tumor. They also shared that his doctors are discussing additional chemotherapy treatments.

In addition, the family said they sought treatment through TAM Global in Tijuana, Mexico, where a biopsy from Nolan’s tumors was used for AI-assisted genetic profiling. According to the family, the clinic has developed a custom neoantigen peptide vaccine and immunotherapy specifically for Nolan.

The family said the treatment is expected to cost approximately $45,000, with the vaccine and immunotherapy anticipated to be ready in about four weeks after payment is received. They said Nolan is expected to spend two weeks at the TAM Cancer Hospital in Tijuana for treatment, followed by multiple return visits.

The family also shared that Nolan’s previous visit to Tijuana cost approximately $12,000, which they said was made possible through the generosity of community donations. They emphasized that all donations are used solely for medical expenses.

No appointments needed - just line up, hang out, and we’ll get you looking sharp for the first day of school.

🍿 Snacks will be available while you wait, and we’ll do our best to get everyone through as quickly as possible.

This event features two of Sierra Vista’s top barbers coming together to give back to the families who support our community all year long.
AND special guest Ruben Luna Jr. bringing his barber skills to the shop! Giving us a helping hand!

Help us spread the word by sharing this post. We can’t wait to see everyone and send the kids back to school looking and feeling their best!
