Our community is celebrating one of its own.

Tim Kirk, founder of the Warrior Healing Center in Sierra Vista, has been selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame to receive its prestigious Award of Character — making him the first veteran ever to earn this national recognition.

The honor was presented by Hall of Famer Roger Wehrli and Brittney Payton.

Kirk served 25 years in the United States Air Force, and after returning home, he turned his personal struggles into a mission to help others. That mission became the Warrior Healing Center, built right here in Sierra Vista — a place dedicated to supporting veterans navigating the challenges of returning to civilian life.

Today, the center is making a powerful impact:
• Serving around 60 veteran intakes each month
• Operated by a 100% volunteer staff
• Focused on providing meaningful, community-driven support

This recognition is not just for one individual — it reflects the strength of an entire community of veterans, volunteers, and supporters who continue to stand behind that mission.

• Yuma is being considered as a launch site for small rockets carrying communication satellites
• Sierra Vista is being positioned as a re-entry site for advanced spacecraft designed to return to Earth like spaceplanes

This would make Arizona unique—handling both launch and return operations within the state.

Sierra Vista’s role could be especially significant. The city has already secured an “anchor tenant,” BlackStar Orbital, a company developing next-generation spacecraft capable of launching into orbit and landing back on Earth.

That project alone represents:

Local officials say Sierra Vista’s geography—clear airspace, favorable weather, and existing infrastructure—makes it ideal for re-entry operations.
