‼️ BISBEE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES RESULTS OF DUI ENFORCEMENT DETAIL ‼️
The Bisbee Police Department has released information regarding a high-visibility DUI enforcement operation conducted in the Bisbee area on June 20, 2026.
According to the Bisbee Police Department:
“Bisbee, Arizona 06/20/2026 — The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, conducted a high-visibility traffic enforcement operation in the Bisbee area on June 20, 2026, during an event that attracts hundreds of visitors and tourists to the community each year.
The operation was conducted with the goal of enhancing public safety, deterring impaired driving, and reducing traffic-related incidents.
Participating agencies included the Bisbee Police Department, Sierra Vista Police Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
During the operation, officers conducted a total of 86 traffic stops, resulting in:
• 68 warnings or repair orders
• 18 miscellaneous civil traffic citations
• 1 Aggravated DUI arrest
• 2 Extreme DUI arrests
• 1 Underage DUI arrest
• 2 DUI-Drug arrests
One arrest resulted in an individual being charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Narcotic Drugs, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The driver was operating a vehicle while their driving privileges were suspended as a result of a previous DUI. During the investigation, a Bisbee PD K-9 Officer was requested to assist with the ongoing traffic stop / DUI investigation. Upon establishment of probable cause for officers to conduct a search of the vehicle, officers located multiple suspected illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Another arrest was made for Extreme DUI and Unlawful Flight from a Law Enforcement Vehicle. Upon officers initiating a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield and led officers on a vehicle pursuit through the City of Bisbee before being safely apprehended without injury to the public, officers, or the suspect.
Another arrest occurred for suspected Driving Under the Influence of a driver of a vehicle who was under 21 years of age.
The Bisbee Police Department and its law enforcement partners remain committed to removing impaired drivers from Arizona roadways and protecting the traveling public.
Chief Cox stated, ‘These arrests serve as a reminder that impaired driving continues to be a serious threat to public safety. Choosing to drive after consuming alcohol or drugs places everyone on the roadway at risk. The Bisbee Police and our partner agencies encourage all motorists to plan ahead and utilize a designated driver, rideshare service, taxi, or other safe transportation option if they intend to consume alcohol. No celebration is worth the consequences of a DUI arrest, serious injury, or loss of life.’
The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force would like to thank the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its continued support of impaired driving enforcement efforts throughout Cochise County and Southeastern Arizona.”

COCHISE COUNTY TAKES ON SCREWWORM THREAT⬇️
DISTRICT 2 SUPERVISOR CONTINUES WORK TO SUPPORT NEW WORLD SCREWWORM RESPONSE AT BISBEE-DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Cochise County, through the work of Supervisor for District 2 Kathleen Gomez, continues to work with federal, state, local and binational partners to support efforts aimed at protecting Arizona’s livestock industry from the New World Screwworm, including ongoing discussions with the US Department of Agriculture related to the potential establishment of a sterile fly distribution center at the Bisbee-Douglas International Airport (BDI). BDI is owned and operated by Cochise County.
“Cochise County has a direct stake in this issue,” Gomez said today. “We are a border county, we are a ranching county, and we understand how quickly animal-health threats can become economic threats if they are not addressed early. My focus is on making sure Cochise County is at the table, that our residents have accurate information, and that any future effort is handled responsibly to give the public the accurate information they need.”
Discussions continue with federal representatives, local officials, livestock interests, and community partners regarding the potential role BDI could play in a coordinated screwworm response. Supervisor Gomez has received support from regional leaders, including Mayor Jose Grijalva of the City of Douglas; Mayor Ken Budge of the City of Bisbee and Mayor Gregory Hancock of the City of Willcox, recognizing the importance of preparedness and cross-border coordination.
Douglas has historic and strategic relevance to this effort. A USDA Douglas Municipal Airport sterile fly facility was located in District 2, around two miles from downtown Douglas, from 1963 to 1983. Bisbee-Douglas International Airport, owned and operated by Cochise County and about eight miles from the City of Douglas, is in a less populated area but is still near the areas where a rapid response would be most critical. The nearby port of entry and transportation infrastructure also support coordination with Mexico on animal-health issues.
Addressing community questions about whether a sterile fly distribution center would result in large numbers of flies in nearby Douglas, Gomez explained:
“I understand why people hear the word ‘fly’ and immediately have concerns, but this is not a program that creates an infestation. The flies used in this method are sterile males. They do not reproduce, they do not create new larvae, and the entire purpose of the program is to reduce and eliminate the screwworm population.”
A BDI-based sterile fly distribution center could strengthen Arizona’s ability to protect livestock, wildlife, cross-border trade, and the regional economy while supporting coordinated animal-health efforts with Mexico.
🔹NEW WORLD SCREWWORM
The New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly whose larvae can infest wounds on warm-blooded animals, including cattle, wildlife, pets, and, rarely, humans. Although the screwworm was eradicated from the United States in the 1960s, outbreaks in Mexico and Central America remain a concern for border communities and livestock-producing regions.
🔹STERILE INSECT TECHNIQUE
The control method, known as the Sterile Insect Technique, is a long-established, science-based approach. Sterile male screwworm flies are released strategically in targeted areas. Female screwworm flies mate only once, and when they mate with sterile males, no offspring are produced. Over time, the population collapses.
The program does not rely on pesticides, does not introduce a new species, and does not affect other insects. Releases are controlled, monitored, and adjusted based on surveillance data and suppression goals.

🚨 SVPD INVESTIGATES MULTIPLE BOMB THREATS; NO CREDIBLE THREAT FOUND 🚨
The Sierra Vista Police Department has released information regarding several bomb threats reported at local businesses last week. After thorough investigations, authorities determined there is no credible threat to the public.
According to Sierra Vista Police, Fire, and EMS:
“On Thursday, June 18, at about 3:40 p.m., SVPD responded to Cool Cuts located on Fry Boulevard for a report of bomb threats. It was reported that an unknown person called the business and threatened to bring a gun and bombs. The suspect caller’s voice was altered and digitized. The employees closed the business for the day and no bombs were found at the business.”
Approximately 10 minutes later, authorities were notified of additional threats involving The Mall at Sierra Vista.
“At about 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, security officers at The Mall at Sierra Vista began to receive calls from an unknown persons stating bombs had been placed around the movie theater and food court areas inside the mall. The security officers also reported the caller’s voice had been altered and digitized.”
As a precaution, the mall was evacuated while officers investigated.
“SVPD requested assistance from Fort Huachuca’s K9s training in explosives detection. The K9s were deployed in the mall and no explosives were located. The mall was reopened for business after it was determined the area was safe.”
A third threat was reported the following day.
“On Friday, June 19, at about 12:30 p.m., SVPD responded to another telephoned bomb threat at Food City. Officers checked the interior and exterior of the store and no evidence of explosives was found.”
SVPD reports the phone number associated with the calls was untraceable and investigators believe the incidents are similar to recent “swatting” calls reported in the Tucson area.
“It was determined that there is no credible threat to the public related to these phone calls.”
We appreciate the quick response by Sierra Vista Police Department, Fort Huachuca personnel, mall security, and all first responders who worked to ensure the safety of our community.

🚨 SUSPECT IDENTIFIED FOLLOWING FRIDAY NIGHT BARRICADE INCIDENT IN SIERRA VISTA 🚨
The Sierra Vista Police Department has released additional information regarding the barricade situation that occurred Friday evening in the 200 block of Valerie Lane.
Police have identified the suspect as Edwin Batiste, 35- Years-Old.
The following information is being shared directly from the Sierra Vista Police Department:
“Sierra Vista, AZ. 06/22/26. The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a suspect on several charges including aggravated assault and kidnapping following a barricade situation in the 200 block of Valerie Lane on Friday night.
SVPD officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area at about 8 p.m. on Friday. A 911 caller reported her brother had been shot at a residence. She responded to the address and took the victim to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
When officers arrived on scene, they commanded the occupants of the residence to exit. One man obeyed and exited, however the suspect and one other individual remained inside. Officers established a perimeter and issued a shelter in place warning to the surrounding area.
The Cochise County Regional SWAT team responded to the location with crisis negotiators. The non-suspect individual attempted to exit the residence multiple times, but the suspect refused to allow them to leave.
After about two hours the male hostage exited the residence and was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. An hour later, following non-lethal tactics deployed by the SWAT team, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
The suspect was booked in the Cochise County Jail on two counts of domestic violence/aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence/disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon, one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm, one count of discharge of firearm at a structure, and one count of domestic violence/kidnapping.”

There are mornings when the world seems wrapped in uncertainty.
The sky is heavy. The horizon is hidden. Storm clouds gather where we hoped for clear sailing. Looking ahead, it can be difficult to tell whether the day holds sunshine or rain.
Yet notice something about this scene.
Despite all those clouds, there is still a ribbon of light along the horizon. The darkness has not won.
It never does.
Life often unfolds this way. We spend so much energy staring at the clouds overhead that we forget to look for the light still shining beneath them. We focus on the challenges, the setbacks, the worries, and the unknowns. Meanwhile, hope quietly waits at the edge of our vision, patient and persistent.
The yuccas standing on this hillside have weathered countless storms. Fierce winds have bent them. Drought has tested them. Seasons have come and gone around them. Yet here they remain. Not because life has been easy, but because they were built to endure.
So were you.
As this new week begins, remember that strength is not the absence of difficulty. Strength is continuing forward when the path is uncertain. It is trusting that beyond today's clouds there are brighter skies waiting their turn.
The light is still there.
Keep your eyes on it.
Have a wonderful week filled with smiles, new challenges, and strengthened bonds.

The most beautiful place in the world is right there, where you are.
