A Prostate Cancer Screening Event will be taking place in Sierra Vista on Thursday, June 4, 2026, offering local men an opportunity to take a proactive step for their health.

(Mobile unit times may vary based on scheduled appointments — organizers shared they may stay later depending on appointment demand.)

According to event information, 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. Screening and early detection can play an important role in identifying concerns sooner.

Screenings include:
- PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Blood Draw
- DRE (Digital Rectal Exam)
- Testicular Exam
- Urologist Consultation

APPOINTMENT REQUIRED

Most major insurance plans are accepted.
If you do not have insurance or are covered by Medicare, the screening cost is $90 at the time of service.

A shooting was reported in the 100 block of 12th Street in Tombstone around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

According to initial reports, one person has been shot after a physical altercation occurred. The suspected shooter has been detained by authorities.

The condition of the person shot and additional details surrounding the incident have not yet been officially released as the investigation remains ongoing.

A local family is facing an incredibly difficult battle as John Watson prepares for his second fight against cancer. John is scheduled to undergo surgery on May 28, and both he and his family are now carrying the emotional, physical, and financial weight that comes with this devastating journey.

John shared that being unable to work during this time has created tremendous hardship for his household as they struggle to keep up with everyday living expenses while focusing on his health and recovery. 🚒🔥 BIG UPGRADE FOR MESCAL-J6 FIRE DISTRICT 🔥🚒

Big things are rolling into the Mescal area — and this one is all about helping keep the community safer.

After roughly 16 months of persistence, planning, and advocacy, the Mescal-J6 Fire Department has officially added a new brush truck to its fleet through a Bureau of Land Management donation program — a major boost for local emergency response capabilities.

While the truck may not be brand new, it arrives in excellent condition and represents a significant upgrade over the department’s previous brush unit, offering improved capacity, capability, and efficiency where it matters most.

Fire Chief Ed Nied says this addition is especially important because of the district’s large wildland-urban interface — areas where homes and structures sit near undeveloped land and where access during emergencies can often be challenging. The new truck is designed to better handle those conditions and improve response effectiveness.

“This acquisition also aligns with the department’s broader strategic plan, particularly its focus on improving operational readiness,” Nied shared. “With enhanced equipment, firefighters are better prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, ultimately improving service to the community.”

Before entering full service, the truck will be equipped with department-specific gear, and there are even plans to potentially repaint it to match the department’s signature red fleet — although officials say getting it into service remains the priority.

Mescal-J6 Fire Board Member Wade H. Temple II also emphasized the direct impact resources like this have on public safety and the improved protection residents can expect moving forward.
