⚠️ PUBLIC ALERT: SCAM WARNING IN COCHISE COUNTY ⚠️

Cochise County residents are being targeted by a dangerous phone scam designed to steal sensitive medical and financial information. Authorities say scammers are disguising themselves as trusted healthcare providers in an effort to deceive unsuspecting community members.

According to authorities:

“Public Alert: Scam Involving Spoofed Phone Calls Claiming to Be Copper Queen Hospital”

Community members are being warned about an active telephone scam in which criminals are spoofing the phone number of Copper Queen Hospital and attempting to obtain sensitive personal and medical information related to Medicare, insurance, and patient charts.

Copper Queen Hospital has confirmed that these calls are fraudulent. The callers falsely claim to be hospital representatives and may request insurance details, Medicare numbers, dates of birth, or other personal information under the guise of verifying or updating medical records.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has been advised of this scam and is aware of the ongoing activity.

This is a scam!
There has been NO reported data breach involving Copper Queen Hospital systems, patient charts, or insurance records.

What the Public Should Know

Copper Queen Hospital does not call patients unsolicited to request Medicare numbers, insurance information, Social Security numbers, or full dates of birth.

Scammers may use caller ID spoofing to make the call appear as though it is coming from the hospital’s legitimate phone number.

These calls are designed to create urgency or confusion in order to trick individuals into providing private information.

What To Do If You Receive a Call

Do not provide any personal, financial, or medical information.
Hang up immediately.

If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact Copper Queen Hospital directly using the official phone number listed on its website or your billing statement.

If you believe you have shared information with a scammer, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and monitor your financial and insurance accounts closely.

You may also file a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

SIERRA VISTA, AZ — Huachuca Mountain Elementary School has earned one of the highest honors in Arizona public education, being named an A+ School of Excellence Award® recipient for the 2026–2030 cycle by the Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF).

The A+ designation is the top state-level recognition awarded to public schools and highlights campuses that excel in student achievement, innovation, leadership, and community partnership.

This milestone marks a proud moment for Sierra Vista Unified School District, as Huachuca Mountain becomes the second SVUSD school to receive the honor. Village Meadows Elementary earned the distinction in 2025, underscoring the district’s continued commitment to educational excellence.

The A+ recognition process is rigorous, including a detailed application, interviews, and an on-site evaluation by experienced educators. Schools selected demonstrate:

• High-quality, engaging instruction
• Rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum

Huachuca Mountain Elementary was one of just 48 schools statewide selected for the 2026–2030 recognition period.

The Sierra Vista Police Department is celebrating a tremendous show of partnership and support from our colleagues at the Yuma Police Department — who have generously donated a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to strengthen Sierra Vista’s Motor Unit!

This incredible addition will allow our motor officer to increase high-visibility patrols throughout the community, connect more directly with residents, and continue promoting safe driving behaviors across our city. Visibility matters — and so does engagement. This motorcycle will enhance both.

Officer Cuevas and Lieutenant Dannels recently traveled to Yuma to pick up the bike. It will now be properly outfitted for Sierra Vista’s agency needs, and soon you’ll see Officer Cuevas proudly patrolling our streets.
