🔥 AFP Fire Update: Fort Huachuca Fire Contained, West Gate Reopened
Fort Huachuca Fire & Emergency Services, working alongside the Coronado National Forest, responded to a wildfire on Fort Huachuca last night near Site Maverick and Black Tower.
The fire, now being referred to as the AFP Fire, burned approximately 40 acres and is currently 100% contained.
During the response, access to the West Gate and the surrounding area was temporarily closed. Officials report that the West Gate has since reopened and is operating under normal access procedures.
Fire crews have established a containment line and continue mop-up operations while monitoring the area for any remaining hot spots.
This remains an evolving situation, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.

⚠️ NOW: Blowing Dust Warning in Effect for Cochise County
A Blowing Dust Warning is in effect right now for portions of Cochise County as strong thunderstorm outflow winds move through the area.
Visibility may suddenly drop to less than one-quarter mile, with wind gusts exceeding 50 mph possible. Conditions can change rapidly, creating hazardous travel on area roadways.
If you encounter blowing dust while driving:
• Pull Aside, Stay Alive
• Pull completely off the roadway.
• Turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.
• Stay in your vehicle until the dust passes and visibility improves.
If you don’t need to travel, consider delaying your trip until conditions improve. Drivers already on the road should use extreme caution, especially along Interstate 10, Highway 90, Highway 92, and other open stretches of roadway.

⚠️ BLOWING DUST ADVISORY ISSUED FOR THIS AFTERNOON ⚠️
The National Weather Service has issued a Blowing Dust Advisory for today from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM MST for portions of southeastern Arizona.
Strong thunderstorm outflow winds may produce blowing dust that reduces visibility to between ¼ mile and 1 mile, with wind gusts exceeding 50 mph possible.
Motorists traveling this afternoon and evening should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, especially along open stretches of roadway. Visibility can drop with little warning, creating dangerous driving conditions.
If you encounter a dust storm while driving, remember the Arizona Department of Transportation’s safety message:
Pull Aside, Stay Alive.
* Safely pull completely off the roadway.
* Put your vehicle in park and turn off your lights.
* Keep your foot off the brake pedal so other drivers do not mistake your taillights for the roadway.
Allow extra travel time, secure loose outdoor items, and stay weather aware as storms move through the area this afternoon and evening.
We will continue to provide updates if conditions worsen.

Deputy County Attorney Terisha Driggs has been recognized with a statewide honor after being named the 2026 Arizona Specialty Court & Diversion Program Prosecutor of the Year during the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council (APAAC) Conference.
The award recognizes a prosecutor who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to specialty court and diversion initiatives—programs that focus on accountability while providing opportunities for rehabilitation when appropriate.
Driggs has served the Cochise County Attorney’s Office for several years, handling a wide range of criminal cases while also contributing to specialty court and diversion efforts aimed at improving outcomes within the justice system. Her work has earned recognition from colleagues across Arizona for her professionalism, dedication, and service.
The Cochise County Attorney’s Office announced the honor this week, praising Driggs for her commitment to the community and her continued efforts to uphold the responsibilities of public service.
