PARKER CANYON LAKE DEATH: A Coordinated Response to a Remote-Area Emergency On March 11, 2026, at approximately 1300 hours, Cochise County Search and Rescue was activated in response to a report of a subject in the water next to an overturned kayak at Parker Canyon Lake. The reported location was near the south shore east of the dam. Fry Fire Department paramedics and the CCSO helicopter were also dispatched to provide assistance. CCSO Deputy and SAR Coordinator Ian Williamson, along with Fry Fire Department medics, responded to the area and were directed down a forest road to gain closer access to the reported location. Upon arrival, they located the overturned kayak and a male subject facedown in the water. Paramedics immediately assessed the individual, but no signs of life were present. Additional SAR personnel arrived shortly afterward and assisted with recovering the subject from the water and transporting him to the parking area at the marina for transfer to the responding mortuary and transport to the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. The kayak involved in the incident was also transported to the marina by the CCSO boat. The mission highlights the challenges responders often face in remote environments, where terrain, access, and communications can complicate response efforts. The coordinated work between Cochise County Search and Rescue, Fry Fire Department, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office ensured the recovery operation was conducted safely and professionally.

We thank you for your efforts in this tragic situation.

BRANDON MARTIN RUNS FOR SIERRA VISTA MAYOR! Martin was head of the local Cochise County Republican Party in 2023 until resigning and registering with the Libertarian party. He now defines himself as an independent. A press conference with Martin is going to be scheduled soon.
A press release from Brandon's campaign is below⬇️
Sierra Vista, AZ – March 13, 2026 – Sierra Vista resident and U.S. Army veteran Brandon Martin is thrilled to announce explosive early momentum in his bid for mayor. Today, the Sierra Vista Herald published a feature on his entry into the race that shattered engagement records drawing more reader reactions than any other story on the site by a factor of 30. Hours later, local powerhouse CoolFMLive contacted the campaign directly to schedule an on-air conversation.
“This isn’t about me, it’s about Sierra Vista getting a mayor who puts hardworking families, retirees, and individual freedom first,” said Martin. “The overwhelming response shows our community is hungry for straight-talk leadership that cuts through bureaucracy, drives real job growth, protects affordability, and delivers world-class services without raising taxes or growing government.
A 20-year Sierra Vista resident, former Assistant Store Manager at Lowe’s, Training Coordinator at USAICoE (recipient of the Superior Civilian Service Award), and U.S. Army interrogator/instructor who served in Operation Enduring Freedom, Martin is campaigning on three no-nonsense pillars: 1. Fueling job growth and keeping costs low through tough negotiations, tax relief, and market-driven housing solutions that put more money back in residents’ pockets.
2. Upgrading essential services with a laser focus on world-class retiree healthcare via private partnerships and expanded education choices for middle- and working-class families.
3. Strengthening our unbreakable alliance with Fort Huachuca to create veteran jobs, boost local revenue, and safeguard our shared resources.
Martin’s message is simple and authentic: limited government, personal liberty, self-reliance, and results that honor our military heritage while making Sierra Vista the best place in Arizona to raise a family, build a career, or enjoy retirement. “I’m not a politician... I’m a neighbor who’s negotiated deals at Lowe’s, trained soldiers at Fort Huachuca, and interrogated threats to our nation,” Martin added. “That same grit and common-sense approach is exactly what Sierra Vista needs right now.”
The campaign invites all residents to visit brandonmartinformayor.com to read the full platform, join the movement, and chip in to keep this grassroots effort rolling.
About Brandon Martin for Mayor
Brandon Martin is an independent candidate for Mayor of Sierra Vista who believes in freedom, fiscal responsibility, and putting people over politics. With real-world experience in retail management, military training, and intelligence operations, he is committed to delivering job growth, affordability, top-tier retiree services, strong Fort Huachuca ties, and maximum individual liberty for every resident.
(This was not a paid advertisement for Brandon Martin nor do we endorse him or any other candidate. This is an informational announcement)

🏆⚡️SSVEC Receives National Recognition for Serving Its Communities ⚡🏆
Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) has been honored with the 2026 Electric Cooperative Purpose Award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), recognizing the cooperative’s commitment to supporting the communities and members it serves.
The award highlights the actions SSVEC took during the 2022 surge in global fuel prices, when rising energy costs created challenges for many rural families and businesses. In response, the cooperative directed 100% of its annual operating margin to reduce more than $8 million in member fuel bank debt, helping lower energy cost pressures for its member-owners.
“This recognition reflects what cooperatives are built to do,” said Jason Bowling, CEO of SSVEC. “When our members faced rising energy costs, our board, employees, and cooperative partners worked together to deliver relief while protecting the long-term strength of the cooperative.”
Today, SSVEC continues to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to more than 50,000 members across Cochise, Graham, and Pima counties, while working to protect members from future energy market volatility.
The cooperative received the award during the PowerXchange, a national gathering of electric cooperative leaders from across the country.

🐱🧶 Pet of the Week: Meet Gecko! 🧶🐱
Sponsored by Sierra Toyota | Locally Owned • Community Driven
Sometimes the sweetest souls just need a little time — and a loving home — to truly shine. 💛
Gecko came to the shelter after her beloved owner passed away, and she’s still learning how to navigate this big new world without them. At first glance, you’ll notice something pretty unforgettable… her legendary permanent “grump face.” Honestly, it might be one of the best we’ve ever seen! She looks like she disapproves of absolutely everything — but we promise, it’s just her adorable expression. 😼
In reality, Gecko is a gentle and shy girl who simply takes her time getting comfortable. What she loves most is the company of friendly, kind cats who help her feel safe and show her that life can still be pretty wonderful.
Gecko would do best in a calm, quiet home with a confident kitty companion who can help her settle in and remind her that being a cat is actually pretty great. Once she feels safe, her sweet personality begins to shine, and she blossoms into a loving little companion.
✨ About Gecko:
• Estimated 3–5 years old
• Litter box trained
• Loves the company of gentle cats
• Looking for a patient, peaceful home
If you have a quiet household and a friendly cat who could use a companion, Gecko might be the perfect addition to your family. Sometimes the best friendships just take a little patience — and Gecko is absolutely worth it. 🐱💕
Gecko is at Bisbee Animal Shelter. If you are interested in meeting this loving soul, please stop by or give them a call!
📍938 S. Tovreaville Rd. Bisbee, AZ 85603
