Have you heard of Fi

Have you heard of First Responders Appreciation Day?

It’s an annual tradition put on at Stan Greer Millworks every year with the help of the community!

September 23rd will be our 11th year showing our local first responders that our community appreciates the sacrifices and risks they take every day.

What does it look like?

From 11am-2pm we host the event at The Old Door Shop, right next to Stan Greer Millworks.
5930 S Hwy 92, Hereford AZ

The community comes together with volunteers to provide 150 swag bags and lunches to eat on the go, or on site if they have the time.

All first responders that sign up are entered into a raffle with tons of cool prizes from Meta glasses to gift certificates. Last year one lucky first responder won a brand new quad!

There are also games (like tug of war, relay races, or push up contests) with prizes and, of course, bragging rights.

We would love for the community to help us make it great this year as well.
If you would like to be a part of this year’s First Responders Appreciation Day there are a few ways you can help!

Remember: 100% of money and item donations go to First Responders.

Raffle items:
Last year we had 101 items to raffle off! You can donate any new item, or a gift certificate, to be raffled off.

Swag bag donations:
We are planning for 150 swag bags, so you can donate 150 small items (pens, stress balls, coupons, etc.) which can be branded with your company information to help share your business.

Monetary donations:
Any monetary donations will go toward paying for raffle items, prizes, or food for the first responders. Monetary donations of $200 or more come with extra perks to promote your business. For more information, please reach out by email at info@theolddoorshop.com

One way you can help for free is by sharing this post or letting people know about First Responders Appreciation Day. Whether they’re a first responder who can participate in receiving some cool stuff or someone who wants to give them cool stuff.

Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered and donated! We can’t do this without the support of our community. ❤️💙

‼️ BARRICADED SU

‼️ BARRICADED SUSPECT IDENTIFIED FOLLOWING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT IN SIERRA VISTA ‼️

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — The individual arrested following a barricade and domestic violence incident Saturday morning on Kings Way has been identified as 30-year-old John Lopez.

The incident began at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, when Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded to the 90 block of Kings Way after a 911 caller reported hearing screaming from inside an apartment.

According to police, officers were able to get a female occupant to safety before Lopez barricaded himself inside the apartment. The Regional SWAT Team and negotiators responded, and the suspect was ultimately taken into custody using less-lethal tactics.

The Sierra Vista Police Department issued the following press release regarding the incident:

“Sierra Vista, AZ. 08/30/26. A barricaded suspect was arrested in a domestic violence incident yesterday after police used less lethal tactics to take him into custody.

On Saturday, August 29, at about 7:45 a.m., police responded to the 90 block of Kings Way for a report of a domestic violence incident. The 911 caller reported that they could hear screaming from inside an apartment.

When officers arrived on scene, they could also hear screaming from the apartment. They made contact with a female occupant and were able to get her to safety. A male occupant subsequently barricaded himself inside the apartment.

The victim was transported to the hospital for assessment and treatment of her injuries.

Due to the circumstances of the case and the barricaded suspect, a perimeter was established and the Regional SWAT Team responded with negotiators. Using less lethal tactics, the male subject was taken into custody. He received non-life-threatening injuries and was medically cleared for incarceration.

The suspect was booked into the Cochise County Jail for domestic violence charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, preventing the use of 911 in an emergency, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and two failure to appear warrants.”

CoolFMLive will continue to follow this case and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION AT BEREAN ACADEMY

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Great teachers do more than teach a subject — they help shape confidence, curiosity and the way students see their own potential.

CoolFMLive recently sat down with Bradlee Sulentic, High School History Teacher at Berean Academy, to talk about his role at the school, what being an educator means to him and the impact teachers can have on the lives of their students.

For Sulentic, teaching history goes beyond lessons, dates and events. It’s an opportunity to connect with students, encourage them to think critically and help prepare them for the opportunities and challenges they’ll encounter beyond the classroom.

During our conversation, Sulentic shares what makes teaching meaningful to him and why being able to play a positive role in a young person’s life is such an important responsibility.

Teachers often become mentors, motivators and trusted influences during some of the most formative years of a student’s life. It’s educators like Sulentic who remind us just how meaningful that impact can be.

CoolFMLive is proud to highlight the educators in our community who dedicate their time and talents to helping local students learn, grow and succeed.

‼️COCHISE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING IN SAINT DAVID‼️

SAINT DAVID, Ariz. — The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, August 30, after authorities were called to a reported possible burglary in progress at a residence in Saint David.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a homeowner who was inside the residence with his family, including two small children, reported hearing what sounded like a window breaking and seeing someone immediately outside the home through his security system.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release regarding the ongoing investigation:

“For Immediate Release
August 30, 2026

Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Shooting in Saint David

SAINT DAVID, Ariz. — In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible burglary in progress in a residential neighborhood of Saint David. The homeowner advised that he was inside the residence with his family, which included two small children, when it sounded like a window got broken, and upon checking his home security system, he observed someone immediately outside

Benson Police Department Officers responded to assist and were first on the scene when they observed a male subject outside of a window of the home who appeared to be unresponsive. Benson Officers requested medical personnel from the Benson Fire Department to respond as they immediately began life-saving measures, which continued until medical personnel arrived on scene and took over. After attempting medical resuscitation without success, the male subject was pronounced deceased.

The homeowner advised deputies that, after entering the main living area of the home, he observed a shadow near a window, in which it appeared as if someone was attempting to gain entry. The homeowner advised deputies that he was armed and fired his weapon, apparently striking the individual attempting to enter the residence.

Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrived on scene and assumed the investigation, preliminarily identifying the deceased subject as a 67-year-old male who had also been living in the Saint David area. Detectives are attempting to notify next of kin at this time. His identity will not be released pending completion of the notification process.

Sheriff Mark Dannels stated, ‘This is an active and ongoing investigation, and our detectives are working diligently to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. While we understand there will be questions and speculation, it is important that we allow our investigators to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation before conclusions are drawn. Our responsibility is to determine exactly what occurred, and we will provide additional information to the public when it can appropriately be released.’

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as appropriate to the ongoing investigation.

No further information is available for release at this time.”

🏈💰 BUENA HIGH

🏈💰 BUENA HIGH SCHOOL WINS $5,000 — AND NOW THEY’RE CHASING A $1 MILLION FIELD TRANSFORMATION!

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Some exciting news for Buena High School and the Sierra Vista community!

Buena High School has been randomly selected as a $5K Fridays sweepstakes winner through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights — earning $5,000 in funding for the school!

But this could be just the beginning.

Buena is also competing nationally for an opportunity to receive a football field transformation valued at $1 MILLION!

Friday Night 5G Lights celebrates small-town high school football and the communities that rally behind their teams. This year, more than $8.4 million is up for grabs, including:

$5,000 weekly sweepstakes prizes
$25,000 for 40 finalists
$250,000 for four division champions
$1 MILLION toward a football field transformation for one grand prize winner

Buena High School Athletic Technician Stephanie Peck submitted the application with hopes of helping modernize the school’s aging athletic facilities. The application highlights needs including improvements to the football field, weight room and athletic equipment — upgrades that could provide safer and more equitable spaces for Buena’s student-athletes to train and compete.

For Sierra Vista, an opportunity like this goes far beyond football. Friday nights bring together students, families, alumni and community members, and a major investment in Buena’s athletic facilities could have an impact for years to come.

The grand prize winner is scheduled to be announced November 12, and as the competition progresses, communities will have opportunities to rally behind their schools and VOTE.

Congratulations to Buena High School on the $5,000 WIN! Now let’s see how far Sierra Vista can take this!

And Buena isn’t the only Arizona school that can get involved. Eligible schools in communities with populations under 150,000 can still apply for Friday Night 5G Lights through September 18.

LET’S GO COLTS!
