ECHOES OF COCHISE COUNTY: THE BISBEE DEPORTATION OF 1917‼️

In the early morning hours of July 12, 1917, one of the most controversial events in Arizona history unfolded in the hills of Bisbee — an event that would forever leave its mark on Cochise County.

More than 1,000 striking copper miners, laborers, and residents were rounded up by armed deputies and forcibly loaded onto cattle cars under the scorching desert sun. Their destination? A remote area near Columbus, New Mexico — abandoned with little food, water, or shelter.

Known today as the Bisbee Deportation of 1917, the incident drew national attention and sparked fierce debate across the country about workers’ rights, corporate power, patriotism, and civil liberties during a time of war.

🚔🐾 SVPD K-9 DEMONSTRATION SHOWCASES OFFICER TRAINING, CONTROL & PUBLIC SAFETY 🐾🚔

The Sierra Vista Police Department gave the community a closer look at the skill, discipline, and teamwork behind its K-9 program during a demonstration showing how a police K-9 is deployed when activated by its handler.

The demonstration highlighted the incredible level of training required between the officer and K-9 partner, including how commands are given, how the dog responds, and how quickly a K-9 can be deployed in certain public safety situations.

SVPD’s K-9 teams play an important role in law enforcement operations, including suspect apprehension, officer safety, and other high-risk situations where specialized training and fast response can make a critical difference.

These demonstrations also give the public a better understanding of the control, communication, and trust required between a handler and their K-9 partner.
