💜 A LOCAL FAMILY NEEDS OUR COMMUNITY RIGHT NOW 💜

What began as severe abdominal pain in January has now turned into a life-changing battle for Michelle and her family.

After initially being sent home from a rural hospital earlier this year, Michelle continued suffering for months as the pain worsened. On May 1st, she sought emergency care in Tucson where doctors delivered devastating news — Michelle has pancreatic cancer, and it is believed the cancer has spread to her liver.

Since receiving the diagnosis, Michelle has been unable to work. Her husband has also had to step away from work in order to care for her and drive her back and forth to Tucson for treatments and appointments.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED NEAR BENSON WITH ASSISTANCE FROM AZDPS AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT ‼️

BENSON, Ariz. — Detectives with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Special Operations District assisted in the apprehension of a homicide suspect traveling through southern Arizona on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

According to AZDPS, detectives were notified by authorities in Palestine, Texas, regarding an attempt to locate a homicide suspect believed to be traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a white GMC pickup truck.

Through coordinated efforts involving AZDPS Highway Patrol troopers and detectives, the vehicle was located on Interstate 10 near Benson. With assistance from the Benson Police Department, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop near milepost 307.

Authorities identified the suspect as Bruce Kenton Jeffers, 65, who was taken into custody without incident.

AZDPS stated that Jeffers was wanted by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas in connection with a homicide that reportedly occurred on May 29, 2026. He was arrested on a full-extradition warrant for allegedly violating bond conditions and was reportedly found to be in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

Jeffers was booked into the Cochise County Jail and is being held on a $300,000 bond while awaiting extradition to Texas.

AZDPS credited detectives from the Special Operations District, Southern Narcotics, Southern General Investigations, Highway Patrol troopers, and the Benson Police Department for their coordinated efforts in locating and safely apprehending the suspect.

🚧 AVOID THE CONFUSION: EASIER ROUTE AVAILABLE AROUND CORONADO DRIVE CONSTRUCTION 🚧

As pavement reconstruction work continues on Coronado Drive between Avenida Cochise and Copper Dust Drive/Goldstone Street, many motorists are encountering confusion with the current detour and are finding themselves routed through residential neighborhoods before having to return to Buffalo Soldier Trail.

For drivers who are not traveling to homes or destinations located within the neighborhoods between Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail, an easier route may be available.

Motorists traveling north on Buffalo Soldier Trail who would normally continue onto Coronado Drive may wish to remain on Buffalo Soldier Trail and proceed to Avenida Cochise, then turn east on Avenida Cochise to continue their travels and avoid the active construction area.

Residents who live within the affected neighborhoods should continue using the access routes designated for local traffic.

The reconstruction project remains underway on Coronado Drive and is expected to continue for approximately two weeks. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, watch for construction signage, obey all traffic control devices, and use caution when traveling through the area.

🕊️ COMMUNITY MOURNS THE LOSS OF SERGEANT IVY NICOLE UNRUH 🕊️

Family, friends, fellow veterans, and community members continue to mourn the tragic loss of Ivy Nichole Unruh, who passed away on April 18, 2026, at just 25 years old.

Known affectionately by many as “Boogie,” “Beastly,” “Bitely,” “Brooklyn,” or simply “Kid,” Ivy was remembered as a beautiful soul whose kindness, compassion, and generosity touched countless lives. Those who knew her describe a young woman who lived with purpose, loved deeply, and always put others before herself.

Ivy proudly served her country in the United States Marine Corps for four years, earning the rank of Sergeant before transitioning to the active reserves. Her dedication to service extended far beyond her military career. She was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, a loyal friend, and an unwavering source of strength for those fortunate enough to know her.

She had a special love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, Dodger, Zuko, and Willow. Ivy was also incredibly creative, channeling her talents into designing costumes, dresses, and elaborate outfits for galas, balls, and Renaissance festivals. Her imagination, warmth, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression wherever she went.

While Ivy’s life was tragically cut short by an act of domestic violence, her legacy continues to shine brightly. As an organ donor, Ivy’s final act of selflessness helped save the lives of six people, giving hope and a second chance to families she would never meet. Even in death, she continued serving others.

Ivy is survived by her loving parents, Matthew Jellison and Amie Unruh; her cherished siblings, Alycia Babich and Thomas Perry; as well as a large extended family, fellow veterans, and countless friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

A public memorial service with full military honors will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local domestic violence shelters or animal rescue organizations in Ivy’s honor.

Today, we remember a daughter, sister, Marine, animal lover, creator, and hero whose impact will continue to be felt for generations. Please keep Ivy’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
