For more than ten years, Jan has written about the women who influenced the growth and development of Arizona in her column “Western Women” that appears monthly in the Arizona Daily Star newspaper.
She has compiled these columns into her latest book, 100 Western Women: the Bold, Brave, Gutsy Women of Arizona’s Past. Come and hear Jan talk about the amazing women who helped shape Arizona.
Pictured are John and Ila Healey, who lived in the meadow below Carr House from 1936 until 1972. Ila was Carr Canyon's own gutsy woman, who once caught a live mountain lion and packed it back to the ranch tied behind her saddle.
History doesn't record her horse's reaction to having a live mountain lion on his back.
Carr House is located at 1011 E. Carr Canyon Road. The location can be found on Google Maps.
